We are going to be learning how to use Prezi this week during Connected Learning. Prezi is a great online tool to help you make a presentation. It's a bit like PowerPoint but it can do different things like zooming in. It's great to use if you have lots of photos or video to use and a little text.
Here is a video to help you get started on learning the basics: Well done to everyone who competed in the Mid Canterbury cross country today, everyone did their B.E.S.T. What a beautiful day for a run! An extra pat on the back to Harry who came 3rd in the year 6 boys race.
This term in connected learning we are looking at native New Zealand. Before we get started there are a lot of new words we needed to be able to use and understand that relate to our topic. We talked about the words as a class and then 'researched' what the words meant. We used dictionaries and Google to find out more. We then created posters on Comic Life to put on the wall to use as a 'visual glossary' for us to refer to.
The poster had to include; - The word - The definition in our own words - 3 sentences using the word that relate to our topic - Images that relate to the word - Other words that have a similar meaning Check out our posters below and keep an eye on our connected learning page to see what we get up to next! First day of term 2, wahoo!! Sounds like you've all had some pretty cool holidays! I am in Belize at the moment staying on a small island called Caye Caulker. It is beautiful! They don't have cars on the island, everyone gets around by golf cart.
Yesterday I went snorkelling at a place called shark alley. There were sharks and sting ray everywhere and I was swimming right beside them! Tomorrow I leave Belize and head to Guatemala. Enjoy your first day back! Hola amigos! Have spent the last week or so in Guatemala and have seen and done some pretty awesome things! Spanish is the language again and I'm feeling a bit more confident using little bits when I talk to people... First stop: Tikal! Towering pyramids poke above the jungle canopy and howler monkeys swing noisily through the branches of the trees (look up the sound a howler monkey makes, it sounds like a dinosaur!). Tikal is a special place where ancient Mayan ruins are found in the middle of the Guatemalan jungle and we were lucky enough to climb some and enjoy the sunrise! Semuc Champey was our next stop. It is famous for its natural limestone bridge, 300 metres long, on top of which is a stepped series of pools with flowing river water good for swimming. Our last stop in Guatemala was Antigua. People come here to climb some of the 37 volcanoes in Guatemala, 3 of which are still active! We climbed Pacaya volcano and toasted marshmallows on the hot rocks of the crater at the top! Hola amigos! Have been in Mexico for the last few days. The weather is hot, everyone speaks Spanish and I've eaten A LOT of tacos! So far in Mexico I have done a lot of swimming, today I went quad bike riding, abseiling and zip lining. Tomorrow I am catching a bus and heading to Belize, see if you can find it on a map!
Hope everyone's holidays have been safe and relaxing and you are looking forward to an exciting term 2. Thanks girls for the comments, share your most exciting holiday moment in the comments below so I can catch up! See you in two weeks! Adios! Have had an amazing trip so far. Am in LA, went to Universal Studios and the Hollywood walk of fame yesterday. About to fly to Las Vegas! Hope everyone is enjoying their last week of school!
It is book week at Tinwald School. We have been spending some time with our buddy class - Rm 1, doing some buddy reading. Today Room 1 came to our class and shared their publishing books. They were very cool!

The next HTJ challenge has a cricket theme. Harakeke are great at their cricket skills and the challenge has 2 parts: a game of 2 ball smash and a learn the flags challenge. Here are the cricket world cup flags that we need to learn. How many can you recognise? We have been working on these self portraits for the last few weeks. they are a mixed media artwork. We used; coloured pencils, water colour paints, pastals and collage. Check out where we are up to below...They are not finished yet but they already look amazing!
Every Wednesday for the rest of Term 1 Arrowsmith and Taylor will be having cricket coaching with Garfield from Mid Canterbury cricket. We had our first session this week. We learnt to stretch our bodies and shift our weight when running between the wickets and also the correct stance when batting. Check out some photos from the session below.
