Arrowsmith have enjoyed a great week swimming at the new EA Networks pool. It was so good to see everyone's swimming skills progress and people enjoying their time in the water. While we weren't swimming, there was plenty to watch around the pool complex or children also shared books, brochures, drew pictures and played cards. On Friday, we also checked out the new courts. We will have another swim week later in the year. Arrowsmith children worked really hard over the last couple of weeks of term 2 to complete a brochure on their choice of native NZ plant or animal. We had to research our topic, write a factual description and then use our knowledge of non fiction text features to present our brochure. We are super proud of how they turned out - Come into our classrooms to read them. Below are some photos of Harakeke sharing their brochures with Manuka.
Miss Taylor found this really cool website that makes really cool comics. Some of us tried it out as part of our reading contracts. Check them out below.
Tinwald School recently bought a reaaaalllly cool new toy called a Swivl. It is a video camera tripod that moves and follows you around the room while filming. We tested it out today while we were practicing our Canterbury Mudfish rap. Check the video out below...Miss Taylor is sneaking around the back because she is holding the remote for the camera!
Because we have been looking at our native's identity this term we decided to base some art around native New Zealand birds. We selected a bird each and then had to find out it's habitat. We painted our birds habitat using water colour paints. We learned about perspective and that things that were closer should appear bigger in our paintings. We then found a photo of our bird and sketched it. We put the habitat and bird together and WAA-LA = Awesome bird art! Here is a sneak peak of some of our finished products below!
